A quiet Wednesday night in Surrey was shattered by gunfire as a cafe reportedly linked to popular Indian comedian Kapil Sharma, "Kap's Cafe," became the target of a brazen shooting. While no injuries were reported, the incident has sent shockwaves, particularly after a prominent Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) operative, Harjit Singh Laddi, claimed responsibility for the attack.

Laddi, a Germany-based BKI figure currently on the National Investigation Agency's (NIA) most-wanted list, asserted that the shooting was in retaliation for perceived humorous remarks made about Nihang Sikhs on a television show hosted by Kapil Sharma.

A chilling video circulating on social media depicts a lone individual unleashing a volley of bullets from what appears to be a semi-automatic pistol into the building housing the cafe. Fortunately, the property sustained minimal damage. Local authorities were swiftly alerted and have launched a comprehensive investigation, with forensic teams meticulously collecting evidence from the scene.

As of yet, there has been no official statement from Kapil Sharma regarding the incident. However, sources close to the comedian have indicated that both the restaurant and the building in question are, in fact, owned by a different individual, seeking to distance Sharma from the direct ownership of the targeted premises.

In a defiant social media post, Laddi elaborated on his motive, stating, "In an episode of Kapil Sharma's comedy show, a character made some humorous remarks about the dress or behaviour of Nihang Sikhs. We tried to contact Kapil Sharma's manager by calling him several times, but there was no response from him. All our calls were ignored. If Kapil Sharma doesn't apologise publicly..." The unfinished threat hung heavy, underscoring the severity of the alleged grievance.

Laddi's name is not unfamiliar to law enforcement agencies. Sources reveal his alleged involvement in a series of targeted killings and attempts, including the high-profile murder of VHP's Vikas Prabhakar in Punjab last year. The NIA has already filed a chargesheet against Laddi, alongside BKI kingpin Wadhwa Singh and other co-conspirators, in connection with these nefarious activities.

Further implicating Laddi, investigations have linked him to orchestrating attacks on political figures in Punjab. These include a petrol bomb attack on Shiv Sena (Bharat Vanshi)'s Yogesh Bakhshi's residence on October 17th last year, and a similar incident at Shiv Sena (Hind)'s Harkirat Singh Khurana's house on November 2nd. Probes have revealed that Laddi's aide, Manish, allegedly recruited young individuals involved in drug peddling and petty crimes to carry out these violent acts.

As the investigation in Surrey unfolds, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the long reach of extremist elements and the potential consequences of perceived slights, even those made in the realm of entertainment. The global implications of such events continue to be a pressing concern for law enforcement and security agencies worldwide.
